Ohio Private Investigators Licensing Requirements
The requirements to get a PI’s license in Ohio may change. Below are a current list of the general requirements. Please visit the states website for the most up-to-date list of requirements.
Minimum requirements:
- 21 years of age
- Applicants must be free of violent crimes, felonies, sexual offenses or other crimes involving moral turpitude.
- Mental competence to hold licensure is required
- Businesses must be bonded for $100,000 per investigator, plus $100,000 in property damage liability and carry $300,000 in bodily injury insurance.
Licensing Requirements (one of the following):
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or law enforcement
- 4,000 hours of practical work experience in an investigative job is required over the course of two years, or work in law enforcement or as a peace officer for two years
- A state licensing exam with 75 questions with a score no lower than 80%
